Air Conditioner Remote Control Symbols Explained

For many of us, deciphering what our air conditioner remote control symbols do can be like trying to read another language – so what do they all actually mean?

While Queensland has a reputation for being beautiful one day and perfect the next, many new arrivals often get a harsh reality check once summer arrives. The days and associated temperatures can change in a matter of hours, and quickly alternate between large scale thunderstorms to month long heatwaves. As such, owning an air conditioner as a Queensland resident is almost a non-negotiable.

As most Queenslanders are all too aware of, an air conditioner is a system that is used to cool down a space by removing heat from the area in question, and moving it elsewhere outdoors. In turn, the cool air can then be moved throughout a building through ventilation, and allows users to essentially control the temperature in the room where the air conditioner is positioned. However, navigating the many air conditioner remote control symbols is often easier said than done.

Your Guide To Air Conditioner Remote Control Symbols

The thing about mastering air conditioner remote control symbols is that they can actually have a huge influence on the price of your quarterly power bill. If you accidentally supercharge your air con’s cooling function, you may receive higher charges than usual. In contrast, you might be warming your home instead of bringing the temperature down. Regardless, there are some universal buttons that are generally used by each of the following major manufacturers.

  1. Mitsubishi air conditioner symbols
  2. Daikin air conditioner symbols
  3. Fujitsu air conditioner symbols
  4. Hitachi air conditioner remote symbols
  5. Toshiba air conditioner symbols
  6. Panasonic air conditioner remote control symbols

While most of us know the role of the power button, our knowledge of controlling units via air conditioner remote control symbols is often fairly limited. While your air conditioner’s “auto mode” switches between the air con’s cooling and the heating modes by calculating the differences between your pre-set temperature and the room temperature, it’s also worth getting to know what the other symbols actually mean.

Cool Mode – Usually resembling a snowflake, in cool mode, the air conditioner takes in hot air and runs it through the compressor so as to cool the air before blowing it out into the room.

Heat Mode – Generally found in reverse cycle units, the sun used by heat mode is a universal symbol used in air conditioners with heating capacities.

Dry Mode – Many people get confused by the water drop symbol, but dry mode actually represents the air con’s dehumidification mode rather than any actual dampness.

Ventilation Mode – Often represented by a windmill or fan symbol, an air con’s ventilation mode works as a fan rotating the air, with no release of cool or hot temperatures.

Timer Mode – Timer mode symbols look like a clock, and start an automated countdown on the unit to trigger the compressor to switch it on and off at set time frames.

Airflow Mode – Usually a symbol with one, two or three lines to represent the unit’s shutters, airflow mode allows users to control which direction the heated or cooled air flows.

All machines need a little bit of help from time to time, and air conditioners are no exception to that rule. As they operate on wired electricity, handling the unit and it’s relevant bits and pieces is not something that’s recommended for the unqualified – after all, if you get it wrong, the consequences can be both expensive and dangerous.

Whether you need the help of a licenced air conditioning electrician for residential, commercial or even industrial purposes, the good news is that Shield Electrical are on hand to ensure your air con unit performs at it’s best.
