So when they were asked to do the electrical fit out for the entire site for Metro Petroleum in Bowen on behalf of Casa Building Group and Brisbane Prestige Property Developments, they were more than happy to take on the challenge. And what a challenge it was, because Bowen is no regular town. This beautiful coastal location in the Whitsunday Region is a known target for cyclones, and the only way this project was going to be successful was to install a power system that could outsmart and withstand even the most ferocious of storms.
The project commenced from scratch when the site was just a block of dirt. From there, Shield Electrical began by excavating and installing the underground infrastructure, including conduits and pits for the cables. After that, they ran cables for electrical and communications systems, as well as security systems such as holdup alarms and CCTV cameras around the entire site.
The project also included the installation of ducted air conditioning throughout the site. To meet the client’s design guide, Shield Electrical also installed numerous light posts and canopy lights to keep the place as bright as possible.
The Shield team was also responsible for fitting out all of the external electrical requirements, from the signs to the lighting, and all the other elements visible from the outside.
Shield Electrical did everything from the original civil works through to both completion and commission – including a Cold Rock ice creamery and ‘the wall of happiness.’
At Metro Petroleum, they believe that convenience can go a long way to ease the lives of their on-the-go customers. That’s why they created ‘the wall of happiness’ – a place to quickly get a coffee, a sandwich, or even a Mr Whippy thick shake, to ease a busy day. Shield Electrical loved being a part of the wall of happiness, knowing that every customer who enters the Metro can add a little bit of joy to their busy day.
This project was a big undertaking, but the biggest challenge was the terrain. Bowen is an incredibly rocky area, and what would normally take a few days to dig took up to two months. The job in total took around six months, mostly due to the number of rocks they had to dig up simply to lay the groundwork.
Shield Electrical was part of this project from start to finish and received a lot of praise from the onsite managers and surveyors.
